The findings of a recent survey were reported in "GUT", a specialist publication of the British Medical Association. Research was carried out over 6 years and involved more than 200 patients. Around 71 percent of patients said that hypnotherapy successfully improved their condition, with positive effects that lasted up to five years. Many also found that hypnosis significantly helped to reduce levels of anxiety and depression associated with the condition.

Research by Peter Whorwell, Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology shows hypnotherapy to be effective in over 70% of cases
"IBS is ideal for treatment with hypnosis, as there is no structural damage to the body," explained Professor Whorwell. "During the hypnotherapy, sufferers learn how to influence and gain control of their gut function, and then seem to be able to change the way the brain modulates their gut activity. We've found it to help all the symptoms, whereas some of the drugs available reduce only a few," he said
